When Falls the Hammer of Night
Session 1 (04/30/16): After a long slog along the Gemstone Road, our heroes run into bad luck when the axle breaks on one of their wagons of the caravan they’re guarding. On a tight deadline and with little time to spare, the caravan foreman makes the decision to split the caravan, leaving our heroes behind to guard the last wagon while repairs are made. Booze and cards are had.
Session 2 (05/14/16): The wagon is repaired and leaves the village, but trouble waits along the way; a quartet of bandits attempt to spring a trap on the party, but are overpowered and repulsed; one, a half-orcish woman, is slain, and the remainder retreat. A note on the fallen bandit suggests that this may be more than simple chance, and that the wagon they are guarding may have some hidden cargo.
Session 3 (06/11/16): The party arrives at its destination and, after some discussion, get their pay… along with an invitation to dinner from the recipient of the hidden cargo. After an afternoon out and about in the city, the party meets with the client—Rellis Sterton, an elderly alchemical researcher. Discourse ensues over dinner.
Session 4 (06/25/16): Sissil receives a response to an overture made to the bandits prior to dinner, and discusses it with the others over breakfast… which is interrupted when the party finds themselves summoned by members of the City Watch. They find themselves visiting the scene of a terrible crime—the burnt remains of Rellis Sterton’s abode—where they are questioned by Detective Sam Raines. After defending themselves to the detective’s satisfaction, the party investigates and uncovers a scorched journal… and with it, more questions.
Session 5 (07/09/16): After meeting back up with Zekki, the party heads to investigate Lucille, a relative of Sterton’s and the other person of interest in the case. After crossing paths with Detective Raines again, they party begins their investigation… but the more they learn, they more it seems that things may not be what they appear…
Session 6 (08/06/16): The group heads to the tavern ‘Darkest Hours’, where they meet up again with two of the bandits. Over drinks, information is exchanged, and the party starts to form some disturbing hypotheses about the nature of what they’ve stumbled into…
Session 7 (09/18/16): Corwyn, watched over by Zekki and Seong, takes on the appearance of the missing girl, Lucille, in an effort to draw out whoever had vanished her away…
Session 7a (09/18/16): …while Sissil and Bira investigate the mystery of the Fourth Treatise of Aska.
Session 8 (10/01/16): Seong, Sissil, and Corwyn (still posing as Lucille) investigate the sites Lucille had worked at, uncovering some vaguely suspicious information about the final stop on Lucille’s routine—a jewelry store where the proprietor and half the staff had vanished overnight… on the same night that Sterton Alchemicals burned, as it happens. Meanwhile Bira has a vaguely forboding conversation with a grey-robed stranger.
Session 9 (10/15/16): The group investigates the missing employee at Alen Jewelry, but the answers they receive only provoke more questions. Detective Raines reveals that the Watch is closing in on “Lucille”, prompting the group to move on.
Session 10 (?/??/16): After a tightening police net forced the group to leave the city, the party begins to pursue their next lead: the Fourth Treatise of Aska, allegedly located at the Grand Library of the Arcanum.
Session 11 (?/?/16): The party faces the bureaucracy of the City of Magic and finds it a dangerous enemy indeed. The Arcanum’s administrative receptionist refers the party to a professor by the name of Julian Ricdeau, who paints a troubling picture indeed of affairs within the Library, setting the stage for the party to cross paths with the head Librarian, the sinister Master Severin…
